Old liabilities never die. They can extend back for decades. Fortunately, the same is often true of old insurance policies ... if they can be found. The older the policy, the less restrictive and more valuable it is likely to be. General liability insurance policies 'written prior to the mid-1980s, for instance, are particularly valuable because they frequently do not contain pollution exclusions, aggregate limits and limits to defense costs. And, the policy coverage is still effective decades later. We are retained to research, uncover and reconstruct past insurance policy assets that protect against current liabilities. Through our international network of underwriters, brokers, adjusters and lawyers in California, New York and London, we know where to look for old records and documents. Whether it's following the trail of insolvent insurers, tracing the successor companies of the original insurance carriers, or uncovering secondary evidence such as Lloyd's brokers "slips" or certificates of insurance, we can piece together the jigsaw puzzle to form a unified record of the insurance history of any company. We are one of the leaders in this evolving science known as "insurance archeology", and we have located hundreds of millions of dollars of policy limits for our clients. |
